Hyper-focus

by Geray Mena

WHEN: Thursday 21 September 17:30 - Sunday 31 December 18:00

At the end of his two-year residency, photographer Geray Mena presents his new project in WOW Amsterdam’s Vertical Gallery, Hyper-Focus. The exhibition stems from the convergence of his research in Eastern philosophy, meditation, mandalas and the photographic medium.

Struck by the similarities between archetypal images of mandalas and the focus reference cards used to calibrate camera lenses, the exhibition explores the connection between mechanical and inner focus and the possibility of healing through art. With the strong belief that problems in today’s society are due to a lack of interrogation of the inner self, Mena creates and appropriates symbols and images to stimulate the viewer.

WOW’s Vertical Gallery is transformed into a path to enlightenment, where Mena’s works guide the visitor towards spiritual development and meditation. By creating his own version, Mena wants to connect to mandalas’ symbolic power of unity, harmony and inner reflection.
