WOW.doc #1 | Bloody Daughter

Documentary screening

WHEN: Thursday 2 February 20:00

In this brand new series of documentary showings, curated by filmmaker and Artist in Residence Kristina Daurova, we look at stories of extraordinary people and discover how the everyday may be very special at the same time.

Bloody Daughter is a documentary film by Stéphanie Argerich (2012, Switzerland / France, 1h 40min).

The parents through the daughter’s eyes – a family portrait blending intimate conversations, agreements and disagreements, and shredded ties of sounds and blood. This loving portrayal of two musical giants by Martha Argerich and Stephen Kovacevich’s daughter Stéphanie was filmed over two decades and around the world: Warsaw, where Martha wins the Chopin competition’s first prize; Japan, which hosts a unique Argerich festival; London, where Stephen lives, works and intensely enjoys Indian food; Belgium, where we see Martha in a house filled with pianos and cats; Argentina, which she left age twelve to study in Vienna, but still conceals valuable family treasures; Switzerland, where Stéphanie and her sister Lyda are currently living. Made up of documentary sequences focusing on the two characters of Martha and Stephen in their everyday lives, in rehearsal and in performance, the film is largely given over to delicious anecdote and a few scenes in which the family is reunited.
