Yori Swart

Young Talent award winner sings at WOW!

WHEN: Saturday 21 June 20:30

Yori Swart will sing at WOW’s preview! Her career got off to a great start at a rare speed.

In 2011 the young singer-songwriter from Bergen (the Netherlands) won that year’s Grote Prijs Van Nederland, in the category best singer-songwriter of The Netherlands. A month later, she and her band gave an impressive show at the most important Dutch music festival Noorderslag and in February 2012 she released her debut album on her own label Ysplaat, in collaboration with Rough Trade Benelux and Tikkeboemtsjing.

The album on which her love for folk and blues is heard got wonderful reviews and is embraced by Dutch radio station 3FM. Nationwide number one television program -1 million viewers per day- De Wereld Draait Door invites her to play live in the show, the album is dubbed 3FM Album of the Week and the single I Say Nothing is rotated daily on the radio.

In three years Yori played over 250 shows. Besides being the support act for Agnes Obel and Jonathan Jeremiah, Yori and her band played an extensive club and festival tour in 2012, including a sold out show at Paradiso and performances at Oerol and the 3FM Awards (w/ Ben Howard). Yori also set foot in Asia and Denmark with her album and tour.

The dream start for the young singer-songwriter gets a sequel in March 2013 with the release of her first solo EP, Weigh In Weigh Out. The eight tracks were recorded in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes, and will be released on a limited edition vinyl. Before Yori dives into the studio for her next band album, she will do a tour across The Netherlands and a few shows in the UK.
