Philip Glass 80!

Two concerts at Melkweg

WHEN: Sunday 22 October 20:00 - Monday 23 October 22:30

Sunday sold out – Monday tickets still available

WOW and Melkweg present Philip Glass in concert

Collaborating with Kypski, Amstel Saxophone Quartet, Maki Namekawa and Dennis Russell Davies, the Maestro celebrates his eightieth birthday. First at a private event at WOW, then during two exclusive concerts in his favourite Amsterdam music venue.

On Sunday 22 October Glass performs three of his own piano works as part of Amsterdam Dance Event: ‘Mad Rush’ (1980), ‘Four Movements for Two Pianos’ (2008) and ‘The Suite from Les Enfants Terribles’ (1996). His 80th birthday is celebrated with ‘Glass on the Roof’, presented by the Amstel Saxophone Quartet and DJ/producer Kypski.

On Monday 23 October Philip’s friends join him: the Alma Quartet, cellist Matt Haimowitz and pianist Maki Namekawa have already been confirmed, and more to come!

About Philip Glass (website)

Glass is undoubtedly one of the most important composers of the past fifty years. For a number of years now he has been a regular guest at Melkweg. These performances mark the fourth time since 2011. His Days and Nights Festival and The Philip Glass Center show his enthusiasm for spreading his art.

“The Glass Center will be our home – a place where artists, scientists, and conservationists will come to learn and work together to produce a culture of renewal for our time. This work will become a forum, which will contribute to the public good and finally, stand as a true cultural center for today and the future.” – Philip Glass
