Join a beautiful evening with fashion designer Pauline van Dongen at WOW: 18 December. Pauline van Dongen researches the body in a technologically textured space. After graduating from ArtEZ, Academy of the Arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands, she started her own womenswear label in 2010.
Pauline operates a meticulous research of the behaviour of experimental and high-tech materials, combining new technologies with traditional techniques to constantly renovate craftsmanship. The abstract fluid volume and hyperbolic surfaces of her last collection, Oloid spring /summer 2014, formulate an aesthetic of technology, resembling a technologically textured surrounding.
Working closely with companies from the field of science and innovation, Pauline aims to merge fashion and technology giving life to scientific creations. The integration of different expertise has been fundamental for the realization of projects such as Wearable Solar, an example of wearable technology that integrates solar cells into garments, and Mesopic, a light-emitting jacket created in collaboration with Philips. In order to get a better insight into the wearable-technology sector, Pauline is now involved in a Ph.D program, Crafting Wearable 2013-2017, in collaboration with the TU/e University in Eindhoven.
During this evening at WOW we will interview Pauline van Dongen and find out all about her fascinations, her latest collection and her creative design process. Five models will show representative prototypes. The atmosphere during this evening will be intimate. Feel free to ask questions and have a close look at the prototypes!
