Ivo & Katinka

Get to know Ivo Bos and Katinka Marac, who are bringing their Light and Sound Installation back to WOW.

by WOW Amsterdam

Ivo Bol and Katinka Marac are bringing their installation ‘LINES’ back to WOW for WOW Open AIR, during 24hrs West. LINES was part of the Amsterdam Light Festival 2014-2015 and was built in one of the studios in the WOW building. This is a unique chance to view their work in the context where it was created – and to hear the story behind the installation from the creators themselves.

How do you know each other?

We met through our work in the dance world. Ivo is an Amsterdam based sound artist who makes installations and compositions, amongst others for dance. Katinka designs light for contemporary dance and performance and autonomous light installations.

How did you get involved in WOW?

We contacted Marlies and Kees out of the blue really. We were looking for a place to work and present our installation, and we were attracted to the vibrant cultural nature of WOW.

What is LINES?

LINES is a miniature landscape of mist, sound, and light, in which the weather is captured in a transparant box. Whirling mist, slow moving lightscapes, and soft whispering sounds. We are constantly in motion, just like the weather. The grand cycles, patterns, and rhythms in nature are also present at a small scale in our bodies. Visitors are invited to take a seat and let themselves be carried away.

What will you be doing at WOW Open AIR?

We will show LINES in the space where it was built. LINES is not a finished work and we are showing it at different locations that share our interest in the relationship between humans and nature. We are looking for partners to develop new versions of this installation and to interpret other landscapes in the future.
