MBFWA Dynamic Store: WOW Rip-Off

Fashion Installation

WHEN: Friday 1 July 14:00 - Sunday 3 July 20:00

Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam OFF SCHEDULE presents the Dynamic Store from 1 – 3 July in The Loft of the A’DAM Toren. In this unique pop-up store a selection of different catwalk designers are challenged to present and sell their collections. The dynamic programme includes fashion installations, interactive experiences and other informative activities.

Three rising fashion stars present their latest collections in the WOW Rip-off exhibition: Ting Gong, Vita Stasiukynaite and Tijme Veldt. No imitations, no astronomic price tags: this literal Rip-off breaks through the dogma of the fashion presentation just like the separate designs probe old rules and conventions. The designers push a parallel message through their collections and a Rip-off performance – you have to take something home!

VITA STASIUKYNAITE
As a designer, Vita reflects on the past, present and future. By showing her attitude she creates not just clothes but a moment to think about memories and future visions in today’s world. Her collection is inspired by unusually shaped fruits, roots and vegetables, which are often called odd or ugly and perceived as something strange and inedible. But upon closer inspection they reveal an incredible variety of colours, curves, contours and taste. In the collection, Vita deconstructs men’s traditional tailored suits and breaks the ethical rules that say how a suit should be worn. Vita wants the suit to be unexpected and tasteful like those wonky, misshapen vegetables whose taste we have forgotten or, in many cases, never actually experienced.

TING GONG
The experience of space, a sense of belonging and the notion of authentic values are the elements behind Ting’s work. She communicates these through her sculptural garments, in which she challenges herself to use different media to layout a body-related exploration.

TIJME VELDT
In his work, Tijme looks for the similarities between different people, the ones that are not so easy to see, but are obviously there. For his new collection, he was inspired by the way everybody decorates themselves with clothes. We may have lost the utilitarian in clothes, they have become decoration. For his new collection, Tijme goes back to modern utility. The functions that became decorations become functions in new ways, and decorations construct the garments.

Open daily from 2pm to 8pm on the 16th floor / Tell us you’re going on Facebook and check the MBFWA website for more
